Camping in the North Platte Area


Buffalo Bill knows that it’s important to get out into nature and relax. The many camping areas in the North Platte area provide ample opportunities to get back to nature.

Lake Maloney is just six miles south of North Platte is a great getaway spot for outdoor-lovers. Lake Maloney is popular for boating, fishing, water sports, camping and family fun. The 1,000 acre lake provides lake-goers the chance to watch wildlife, fish for a variety of species, or wakeboard.

Lake Maloney has nice, shady spots for camping, grilling and picnicking.

Lake Maloney offers 56 Electric Plus and 200 Primitive campsites. Coin-operated showers, dump and fill station, drinking water, two boat ramps and primitive restrooms are on-site. Camping is all first-come, first-served and stays are limited to 14 consecutive days in a 30 day period.

Camping at Lake Maloney SRA is all first-come, first-served and campers register their nightly camping fees in a raised, locked box called an Iron Ranger. Self-service envelopes are provided at each Iron Ranger station. Check or cash only. Iron Rangers are generally located near the park entrance or in the campground area. On-site camping informational signs are provided to help guide campers with the self-registration process.

Buffalo Bill Ranch State Recreation Area offers camping and hiking right next door to the Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park, which makes it easy to tour the ranch house and barn that Col. William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody built for his home in North Platte during the heyday of his famous Wild West Show. Cody owned some 4,000 acres here, which were appropriately named Scout’s Rest Ranch. Guests are encouraged to spend time enjoying the trails and scenery at the recreation area, as well as touring the historic buildings and soaking up the history at the historical park.

Buffalo Bill Ranch State Recreation Area offers Electric Plus, Electric and Basic camping. The recreation area offers 23 camping pads with 50-amp hookups and of these, 18 sites have 30-amp hookups and five sites have 50-amp hookups. The area also offers eight non-pad Basic campsites without electricity.

Other campground amenities include primitive restrooms and drinking water hydrants are available throughout the campground.

Sutherland State Recreation Area is a 3,017-acre lake with 37 acres of land. The area offers quality fishing, power boating, primitive camping and a swimming beach. Sutherland Reservoir is conveniently located off Interstate-80.

Inlet Area Campground is on the southwestern corner of the lake. This spacious campground has 25 campsites with picnic tables, fire rings, and a pad with enough space for most RVs or trailers. In the early spring of 2021, 30/50amp hookups were added to 24 of the campsites. There is potable water and a vault latrine available.

Just north of the Inlet Area Campground, you will find the Westshore Area Campground. This is a large section of wooded area along the banks of the Sutherland Reservoir that has primitive camping. The campground has 35 campsites with picnic tables and fire rings, but no pads. These are typically used for tents only but there are some where RVs are able to go. There is also a handpump hydrant and vault latrine within walking distance. If you brought your boat, this area also has a boat ramp for your convenience. All sites are first-come, first-served so make sure you get there early during the warmer months. Pets are allowed as long as they are kept on a leash or otherwise restrained at all times.

Other primitive camping is located at the east side of the lake at Hershey Beach.

The Sutherland Oregon Trail Golf Course and Campground is located at the north side of the lake. There are 31 sites with 30/50amp hookups and water. There is a dump station on site and restrooms available in the clubhouse, which also has a full bar. Primitive camping is available on the beach. The campground is located adjacent to the nine hole Sutherland Oregon Trail Golf Course.

CB’s Hideaway is located on the Inlet at Lake Maloney. It features 35 pads with 30 and 50 amp hookups, a playground and handicap facilities. Shaded campsites,  air conditioned shower house and bathroom and great fishing.

Holiday RV Park is a highly rated, established campground and one of Nebraska’s finest. You will receive the warmest welcome and the highest respect when you give us the opportunity to be your host. You will find clean restrooms and laundry facilities. You are welcome to inspect them before you register. All 100 of our sites are large, grassy, pull-thru, mostly shaded full hookups for RVs and trailers. There is also a large shady tent area for groups.

I-80 Lakeside Campground is situated on a clean private lake, and features 89 sites, many with full water, sewer, and electric (30 or 50 amp), as well as a community shower house, laundry facilities, and dump station. Several sites are pull-through and can accommodate any size RV. There are also areas set aside for primitive and tent camping. A small convenience store is located on-site, and includes items such as snacks, drinks, alcohol, fishing supplies, camping necessities, ice, and a limited supply of grocery items.

The campground in Cody Park has 40 hard-surfaced camping pads. It is located right on the North Platte river in a beautiful 300 acre park off of Highway 83. There are no sewer, water or electrical hook-ups available. There are restroom facilities and potable water available. A dump station is located nearby. Campsite is open May 1st through October 15th. Camping costs apply. Stays are limited to seven consecutive days.

The Lincoln Highway RV Park is located on Highway 30 west of North Platte. It features 30 / 50 AMP electrical hookups/ water/ sewer, Cable and wireless internet, Extra-large pull-through sites, Propane filling station on site, Laundry facilities available, On site convenience store.
