7 Places For Perfectly Cold Treats

Finding the perfect cold treat is serious business, especially this time of year. You need something that’s going to cool you off during these sweltering hot months all while satisfying your taste buds. Well, the search is over. Now, these aren’t your run-of-the-mill ice cream/smoothie shops, these are some the best places in the game that you may or may not have heard of. We’re blowing the top off the whole operation and exposing these seven hidden gems in and around North Platte where you can find delicious cold treats from smoothies to snow cones to splits—and everything in between!

1. Archie’s Smoothies









Prided on being “nutritional delicious”, Archie’s Smoothies serves smoothie galore. Flavors include strawberry banana, strawberry, mango, pineapple, peach pear apricot, 4 berry, tropical sunshine, vanilla crème, and mocha. You can either order these flavors as they are or mix them to create your own combinations. They truly are nutritional, in addition to being mighty delicious, with one 20-ounce smoothie equaling five servings of fruit. Run by the nicest people out of an adorable RV, Archie’s Smoothie all started with the vision to earn money for medical expenses for the owner’s husband, who has cancer. Find Archie’s Smoothies at Karl’s parking lot from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. every day except for Sunday.

2. Ice Cream Coach









A self-described “mobile ice cream shop”, Ice Cream Coach not only offers an assortment of ice creams, but also has 12 snow cone flavors from classics like watermelon and blue raspberry to wild flavors like rainbow and tiger blood. This magical coach also offers everything else you could want: shakes, malts, root beer floats, banana splits, and sundaes! They are usually parked at the Boardwalk on weekdays and the Do-It Center on weekends. Be on the lookout as they also make appearances at various events. Their hours are typically from 2–6 p.m., so stop by while you can!

3. Snowball Express









Offering a whopping 50+ flavors, Snowball Express makes for the ultimate shaved ice destination. With so many flavors to choose from, you can pick one or mix two together to create unlimited options. For those brave enough to face magical beasts, you can even get the ever-popular dragon’s blood! In operation from May to Aug., catch this truck on the south side of the AMC Classic movie theater from 1–9 p.m. Overflowing with syrupy goodness and a mound of perfectly shaved ice for days, this frozen treat will cool you down in a jiffy. This is one snowball you won’t mind your friends hitting you with!

4. Leu Leu’s FroYo









Leu Leu’s FroYo is the place to go to customize your frozen yogurt down to your froyo flavor to the adorning toppings. Go with the froyo flow as it’s healthier than ice cream and just as delicious, if not more! At Leu Leu’s, they have numerous rotating frozen yogurt flavors along with a great variety of 12 toppings to sprinkle on top (fresh fruit topping is available upon request). Not only does Leu Leu’s know how to do frozen yogurt right, they also offer waffle cones and fruit, protein, and green smoothies. Head on down to see all the healthy, guilt-free options they have to offer. Find them nestled downtown at 408 North Dewey. Open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.–6 p.m.

5. Cody Park Concessions









Cody Park Concessions is something of a local celebrity thanks to its unparallel soft serve ice cream. They have a bunch of ice cream flavors including Dole flavors like strawberry, pineapple, lemon, mango (plus more); and novelty flavors like toasted marshmallow, butterscotch, and peanut butter—just to name a few. Flavors are always going through a rotation, so each day is an opportunity to try a new, exciting taste! What better way to beat the heat than with a generous serving of amazing soft serve right at Cody Park? Open every day from 11 a.m.–10 p.m.

6. Sno White (Sutherland)










Sno White in Sutherland stirs up a storm with their sweet treats. They have a little bit of everything, offering classic cones, old-fashioned shakes and malts, and shaved ice; as well as signature items such as flavor bursts, which have injection of flavors like black cherry, green apple, butter pecan (and more!) into your ice cream. Be sure to try their famous snow storms, which are various candy bar flavored ice cream delights. They are open from 11 a.m.– 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12–8 p.m. on Sunday. 7. Double Dips Ice Creamery










Double Dips serves traditional hand dipped ice cream. They also offer shakes, malts, floats, freezes, sundaes, specialty sundaes, and banana splits. If you’re looking for something thick and rich, try one of their malts or shakes! They are exclusively found at events around the community.
