North Platte Beef and Wine Tour


On this tour your group will explore the University of Nebraska West Central Research and Extension Center, where the latest agriculture research on beef nutrition, weed ecology, wind drift, irrigation and water resourses, is being done.  Following the University of Nebraska Extension Center, Feather River Vineyard will put on a culinary show that people are sure to enjoy.   Our chef will make your taste buds come alive as she teaches your group how to sizzle, sear, and grill Nebraska’s finest beef right in front of your eyes while our wine expert is coaching you on how to explore your wine palates and pair it with food.


3:00 pm  – Arrival
Arrive at University Of Nebraska West Central Research Center, where your group will board a comfortable hay-rack-like wagon.


3:15 pm – Green House
Arrive at one of the Green Houses to learn about several of Nebraska’s most notable plants, and get a firsthand look at state-of-the-art plant research.


3:40 pm – Cattle Pens
At the Cattle Pens you will get access to a special facility were scientist are conducting research that helps ranchers produce beef that today’s consumers are looking for.  They will hear about such innovations as ear tag technology that tracks every visit to the food trough, documenting the amount of feed consumed, helping to determine how to get the most weight gain and produce the best quality beef with the lowest amount of inputs.


4:05 pm – Wind Tunnel
At the Wind Tunnel you will see how researchers are able to determine each pesticide’s potential for drift, taking into account application speed,
pressure, nozzle selection, tank mixtures, wind speed and more. These Wind tunnels are one of two facilities in the country to conduct this kind of research.


4:30 pm – Fields
Your final stop at the UNL Research Center will be in the fields. Learn from industry leaders about irrigation practices and cropping systems on a farm scale that maintain or increase crop production while conserving water.


5:00 pm – Feather River Vineyard
You will take a short 7.5 mile trip to the Feather River Vineyard. Here you will have a brief tour of the vineyard,where they will explain some of the challenges of growing and making wine in Nebraska.


5:15 pm  – Wine Making Room

You will be escorted into the wine making room. Here your group will be seated for a full meal that includes salad, beef steak, vegetables, and dessert, along with Feather River’s finest wines. Our chef will give you tips on choosing the right cut of beef and will prepare your meal right before your eyes. Our wine experts will discuss pairing beef and wine in way that complements each other.


7:00 pm – Departure
