Ride with the Wild Bunch Group Tour

 

This evening will start by arriving at the Buffalo Bill State Historical Park “Scouts Rest Ranch” and being greeted by a Buffalo Bill reenactor on his horse.    You will continue by touring Buffalo Bill magnificent Victorian mansion along with the huge barn which all sits on 258 acres of what was originally a 4,000 acre spread that Buffalo Bill called home.  From there you will take a short ride to the Lincoln County Historical Museum for dinner and entertainment along with a tour the museum and western village with working blacksmith.

Day 1

 

9:00 am – Fort McPherson National Cemetery
Arrive in Maxwell, NE (10 miles east of North Platte on I-80) where you will stop at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery (Free).  Established September 27, 1863, Fort McPherson provided protection for traders, settlers, and the first transcontinental railroad linking the East and West Coast.  Today you will find over 6500 veterans buried there along with some Buffalo Soldiers.

 

10:30 am – The Art and Gift Gallery 
The Art and Gift Gallery is a unique cooperative of local artist with five separate galleries and an enclosed courtyard. The Art and Gift Gallery is home to art pieces ranging from wood carvings and pine-needle baskets to fine sculpture, watercolors, photography and oils. Cost: Free

12:00 pm – Lunch
Have lunch at one of North Platte’s great locally owned dining establishments.

 

2:00 pm -Tour Feather River Vineyards
Located in the lush Loess Hills of the southern Platte Valley, Feather River Vineyard introduces wines that reflect the character and history of our geological heritage. The tasting-room is open for sampling and to purchase wine and gifts.  The vineyard is available for special events.

 

3:30 pm- Fort Cody 
Enjoy Fort Cody one of the West’s largest and most unique gift shops.  Antiques, leather goods, jewelry and Western gifts, free Old West Museum. Special attraction: Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show in miniature -a 20,000 piece, hand carved animated display. Cost: Free.

4:30 pm to 8:30 pm- “Ride with the Wild Bunch Event”
Arrive at the Buffalo Bill State Historical Park.  The bus will be greeted by our Buffalo Bill look-a-like on his white horse. The group will then tour Buffalo Bills home and Barn where he lived while he toured the Country with his Wild West Show. Guests will step back on the bus and ride ¼ mile to The Lincoln County Historical Museum and get robbed by cowboy re-enactors.  At the Museum they can tour historic buildings such as old Fort McPherson officer headquarters, one-room schoolhouse, sod home, 1899 Sears & Roebuck house, in the historic Village in the back.  A BBQ will be served as a Band or cowgirl poet entertains the group. Don’t miss the Shootout at dusk!! (Cost:$50 each for thirty or more people)

 

Overnight North Platte

Day 2

 

8:00 am – Golden Spike Tower & Visitor Center
Step out onto an eight story enclosed deck and view the world’s largest rail yard, Union Pacific Bailey Yards. North Platte’s newest attraction features an outdoor deck at seven stories, gift shop, educational displays and informational kiosks.  Cost: $6.  www.goldenspiketower.com

 

10:30 am -Cody Park and the Cody Park Train Museum
The museum features the only Challenger 3900 series steam locomotive on public display, accompanied by a 6900 series diesel locomotive. These two locomotives have a combined horsepower of more than 12,000. Also on display a fully restored railroad depot, several rail cars, and caboose and railroad memorabilia.  Cost: Free

 

11:30 am – Leave North Platte for Dancing Leaf Cultural Learning Center

 

12:00 pm – Dancing Leaf Cultural Learning Center
Arrive at Dancing Leaf and enjoy a lunch consisting of Buffalo Stew.  Located on 115 acres of cedar covered canyons along Medicine Creek and includes a spring fed lake, many scenic trails, natural springs, cabins and lots of wild life.  Dancing Leaf features an earthen lodge that recreates the upper Republican Culture of 800-1300 years ago. A tour of this and other archaeological information and artifacts is covered in 90-minutes.  Cost: Tour $7 each and Buffalo Stew $10 each.  www.dancingleaf.com
