Maxwell Heritage Day

The Maxwell Heritage Day 5K/10K race will lead off events in the annual festival 10 miles east of North Platte on Saturday, Aug. 17.
The kids mile will start at 7:30 a.m., with the 5K/10K starting at 8 a.m. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. at Brittenham Park.

This year’s celebration, named “Maxwell: One Community — Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow,” commemorates Heritage Day’s 25th year and Maxwell’s 105th year as a community. Fort McPherson is also celebrating 150 years in existence while the Maxwell First Baptist Church has been around 110 years and Maranatha Bible Camp is 75 years old.

The Maxwell FCCLA will serve breakfast at the village hall from 7:30-10 a.m., and the First Baptist Ladies Missions will host a bake sale at 8 a.m. on First Street with a community church service in the park at 9 a.m.

The Maxwell Parents Association will host a talent show at the fire hall starting at 10 a.m. and the Baptist Youth Group will serve lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church.

The annual parade begins at 1 p.m. in front of he park on First Street, and travels west past the intersection with Pine Street.

Kids games, Fun Jumpz, a dunk tank and train rides for kids will begin at 2 p.m. in the park with a craft fair from 2-4 p.m. The Maverick Band plays at 2 p.m., followed by Out of the Box.

The annual Maxwell demolition derby will begin at 4:45 p.m. just east of the park, with all proceeds going to Maxwell Fire and Rescue. The volunteer fire department will also host a pork sandwich feed beginning at 4:30 p.m.
